Birdie G's Came Back as a Breakfast Place, and Century City's Dining Day Got Longer

At 2025 Avenue of the Stars, the coffee now starts at 6 a.m. The cornbread waffle with sweet pepper jam comes out at 6:30. By 5:30 p.m. the dining room is serving the rose petal pie, the dessert that kept Birdie G's regulars coming back to a converted warehouse at Bergamot Station for six years.

Birdie G's served dinner and nothing else in Santa Monica. When it closed at the end of 2025, Jeremy Fox thought it might be gone for good. In late October it reopened inside the Fairmont Century Plaza, open from early morning through dinner. That change says a lot about Century City in 2026. For the past year, the restaurants opening here have been built for every meal of the day.

Three Menus Where There Used to Be One

Eater LA's opening report gives the new schedule. In March, the hotel's announcement had also promised a weekend brunch "meant to be shared."

Service Hours as reported in October 2026 What's on it
Coffee From 6 a.m. Specialty coffee, house-made pastries, grab-and-go options
Breakfast and lunch 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Birdie's muesli, cornbread waffle, koji-marinated steak and eggs, smoked fish platter; at lunch, a corned beef Reuben on Bub & Grandma's bread, the gluten-free Pickle Chick, steak frites from 8 to 28 ounces, cauliflower kugel
Dinner 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Hangtown Brei with fried oyster and pork belly, lamb Ă  la sales, rotisserie chicken and vegetables, rose petal pie
Weekend brunch Weekends Shareable dishes, per the hotel's announcement

The OpenTable listing shows different times, with service running daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Schedules often move in a restaurant's first weeks, so check Birdie G's own site before planning an early meeting around it.

Fox calls the cooking "bubbe cuisine" and describes it to Eater as "no-nonsense, bare-bones, straight-to-the-point cooking." Former staff came back with him. Bar director Stephanie Redding is consulting on drinks, Laura Eldrige is working the bar, and several former cooks rejoined. The kitchen is cooking from recipes the team wrote down over the years in Santa Monica.

Why a Hotel Wanted a Dinner Restaurant to Serve Breakfast

Birdie G's was supposed to open a second location here. Fox first talked with Fairmont Century Plaza in June 2025, when the plan was a second Birdie G's. Then the Bergamot Station restaurant couldn't stay open, and the hotel space became where the restaurant would come back. It replaced Lumière, the hotel's earlier restaurant. In March the hotel was aiming for a summer 2026 opening.

The hotel's announcement says plainly who each meal is for. Breakfast is "designed to serve both hotel guests and early business meetings." Lunch comes two ways, a quicker midday meal and "an elevated executive lunch inspired by the historic power lunch culture of Century City." In other words, a restaurant known for its dinners was redesigned around the people who work in the towers along Avenue of the Stars.

Fox's own description in the same release:

"At Fairmont Century Plaza, we're expanding that vision into a true all-day experience, from early-morning coffee to celebratory dinners, while staying rooted in the comfort and creativity that define the restaurant."

The new room was also a chance to get the design right. Fox told Eater LA that the Bergamot Station warehouse was "a really cool warehouse space, but nothing about it tied into the concept, the vibe, the atmosphere, to what I wanted Birdie G's to be." He worked with EDG Design on the Century City room, which goes hard on the 1970s with burnt-mustard banquettes, plaid bar stools and triangle-patterned wallpaper. It looks nothing like the neutral stone in the rest of the hotel. "It definitely feels like you're somewhere else in time, somewhere else in the country," he said.

Across the Street, Westfield Spent the Year Building Bigger Rooms

The hotel isn't the only place adding big restaurants with long hours. Westfield Century City has opened or lost these restaurants in 2026:

  1. March 12: Very Thai opens. Taiwan's Tai Tong Food and Beverage Group opened the first U.S. Very Thai in the old California Pizza Kitchen space on the mall's southwest side, Suite 2800. Eater LA reported 131 seats in 5,000 square feet, plus a full bar, a large patio and a private dining room. It's open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
  2. September 23: Rumi's Kitchen opens. Chef Ali Mesghali started Rumi's Kitchen in Atlanta two decades ago. Its first West Coast location is in Suite 2010. According to Eater LA, the room seats 310 and has an open kitchen where the cooks work over coals.
  3. Early October: True Food Kitchen closes. The chain filed for Chapter 11. The Los Angeles Times reported that the Century City location was one of three Southern California restaurants it closed.

These opened alongside restaurants that were already here. Eater credits David Chang's Super Peach, which opened in 2025, along with Din Tai Fung and the hot pot restaurant Haidilao, with making the mall a dining destination.

Mesghali moved to Los Angeles from Esfahan when he was 11 and started out cooking in Persian restaurants around the city. He calls the Century City opening a "dream come true." The menu has a full section of stews, including gormeh sabzi and duck fesenjoon with pomegranate and walnuts. Larger plates such as the pomegranate short rib feed three to four. "I always wanted to come back to L.A. and open a restaurant to this magnitude," he told Eater.

Very Thai, Rumi's Kitchen and Birdie G's all opened large, expensive rooms and plan to fill them across many hours a day.

What a Full Day Here Looks Like Now

If you live in Century City, Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park or the streets off Pico, all of these are close by:

  • Early meeting: coffee from 6 a.m. at Birdie G's, or a grab-and-go breakfast from the morning menu.
  • Lunch with a colleague: the Reuben or the Pickle Chick at Birdie G's before 2:30 p.m., or shrimp toast and massaman beef curry at Very Thai from 11 a.m.
  • Dinner with a group: stews and shared plates at Rumi's Kitchen, where a lot of the menu is meant for the whole table.
  • Out-of-town guests: Birdie G's at dinner, which ends with the rose petal pie.

Getting There Still Means Driving

The D Line subway's first extension opened May 8, 2026, with new stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. Metro's project page says the Century City section is still under construction underground, and it gives no opening date for that station. Metro also planned to start major street restoration and deck removal along Constellation Boulevard in spring 2026, which can mean temporary lane reductions and weekend work. Metro says it sends advance notices to nearby businesses and residents. For now, most people will still drive or take the bus to an early meeting at Birdie G's or a Saturday dinner at Rumi's, and Constellation is the street most likely to have construction.
